Only the buds contain the essential oil of lavender, which is where the scent and flavour of lavender are best derived. Lavender oil, which has long been used in the production of perfume, can also be used in aromatherapy. Commonly known as "first aide" in a bottle, the scent has a calming effect which may aid in relaxation and the reduction of anxiety. It is one of the few essential oils that can be applied directly to the skin or undiluted. Rubbing into the temples can quiet a headache or when massaged into the neck and shoulder muscles, it can relieve tension headaches. 
 
With it's many uses, no home should be without a bottle.
